The two new services give Malaysian buyers and sellers the option to pay and get paid in local currency for their domestic transactions, as well as Malaysian sellers to gain fast and convenient access to their funds, ultimately making e-commerce even easier.

To add your bank account, simply follow the steps below:

1. Log-in to your paypal account
2. Click “Withdrawal” [See picture below]

3. Click “Withdraw To Your Bank Account” [See picture below]. Note: If you wish to withdraw your earning using debit card, choose “Withdraw funds to your card”.

4. Fill up all your particulars. Click “Details” if you not sure what is your bank’s MEPS Bank Routing Code. [See picture below]. There are plenty of banks that you can choose from: Maybank, HSBC, Affin Bank, Public Bank, etc. Click “Continue” once you’re done. Make sure all informations are correct as Paypal will charge fees for any funds return because of your bank informations are incorrect.

5. Review you informations. [See picture below]. Click “Add Bank Account” and you are done.

6. If you already have funds in your paypal account, you may withdraw it to your bank account immediatley. [See picture below]. Please allow 2 to 3 days for fund transfer. You will be charged RM 3.00 for withdrawing funds not exceeding RM 400. If you withdraw more than RM 400, Paypal won’t charge you  it’ a single cents. It’s FREE!.

Note: Make sure you apply for business account in order to use this service (withdrawal).

Some time ago, I have made a purchase through eBay.  It was a small, inexpensive thing which I couldn’t find in my town.  Previously, I have bought and sold items through eBay, and apart from an item which was accidentally shipped to Indonesia, everything was satisfactory. Anyway, a few days after I have paid for the said purchase, I received an email from eBay as follows:

“Our records show that you recently received an email from …………………………….. through the Ask Seller a Question or Contact eBay Member features. This email may be fraudulent and an attempt to do one of the following:

- Obtain your eBay password
- Gain access to your eBay account
- Use your eBay account for fraudulent activity
- Set up an outside-of-eBay transaction which may be fraudulent

This kind of email is often called a “phish” or “phishing attempt,” and the people who send them are known as “phishers.” Phishers use these methods to try to get your personal information, such as user names, passwords and credit card details. Because the emails may sometimes come through the eBay system, the phisher may seem to be trustworthy and have a good reason to contact you…..”

One look at the e-mail above can make us distraught and worry so much, especially when the next line of the e-mail read as follows:
“ ***Important – Protect Your Personal Information***

– Don’t reply to the sender either through the eBay system or your personal email account.

- Don’t open any links or cut and paste any Web addresses into your browser from the phishing email.

- If you think you may have entered personal information such as your password, Social Security Number, or credit card information into a website based on a request from a phishing email, you need to act *immediately* to protect yourself from identity theft. For detailed instructions about the steps to take….”

Can you imagine my horror?  I immediately checked the Sellers store but saw the notice that the Seller was no longer a registered user. Then, I replied to eBay asking for their advice since I have already made the payment through Paypal.  Nevertheless, having read plenty of stories on scammers and fraud cases, I knew that it will be unlikely that I’m going to get back my money even if I follow all the step provided by eBay on the e-mails. I decided to go against their advice and e-mailed the seller to get further infromation. I was determined to get clarification and the goods that I purchased and believe this is the right way to do it. .  So, I also emailed the Seller asking about the status of my purchase and also informing her that I received a disturbing email from eBay and was worried.

I felt so awful when I received the Seller’s reply a few hours later.  She informed me that she has lost her job and therefore was unable to pay the Ebay fees promptly. She then asked for my postal address and the following week I received from her my order.

However, all I received from eBay was an automated reply, a day later:
“Thank you for your recent contact to eBay Customer Support. Please take a brief survey and tell us how we are doing. The survey should only take 2-3 minutes to complete……”

So, beware, if you are an eBay Seller, make sure you pay the fees on time.

One alterative that I found very interesting is Text Link Ads. What I love about this programme is that it pays you monthly through Paypal. For me, Paypal is the most convenient method of payment as the payments are credited directly to your Paypal account and you can transfer the money to your bank’s account online immediately. You can withdraw it using your debit card at any ATM around the world or you can use the money to make online purchase of products that you like.

It is better than some companies that pay using cheques especially if you live far from USA like me. From the moment the cheques are issued to the time that you actually see the money, it takes about almost two months. Not to mention the bank and courier charges imposed on you. If your adsense income is only about USD 100, then you better don’think too much about it. Luckilly, Adsense has introduced new payment method using Western Union which is faster and with less deductions. I believe those in Malaysia that earn their Adsense income have already switched to this method since last year. If you have not, I suggest you start doing so or keep losing some RM every month.

To apply as Text Link Ads publishers, you first need to have an established blog. Those with low page ranks will not be accepted by Text Link Ads, so make sure you work out your blog first before submitting it to Text Link Ads. Like I said, registration is FREE and if you are using a wordpress platform blog, you will need to download and install the plugin first to make it work.
