Football Today…Look Does Matter
Football today is not all about skills and energy. Look does matter too. You won’t get enough attention if you don’t look good. Just ask David Beckham and David Ginola, for example. They will tell how much easier it is to make money off field than on field with great look. People (girls especially) will que up to pay anything associated with these great looking players. It’s like Hollywood – it’s an entertainment industry. No wonder that Real Madrid general director Jorge Valdano recently revealed that the club are in discussions to sign Cristiano Ronaldo (Again?).
It’s not the first time that Real try to pouched Ronaldo from Man Utd. This will be the 3rd. consecutive years that the Madrid club express their desire to sign the World Football of the Year 2008. Everyone has grown tired of listening to the story except Real Madrid of course, who knows how much money they can make through merchandising and advertisement when someone like Ronaldo joins them. They have the first hand experience on this – with Beckham, of course.
Valdano when ask about Ronaldo said “He is a great professional, he dedicates a very great deal of time to his work. He is a great footballer and a very good professional.“ Then he added “You don’t get the player’s body he has, which is a footballing advertisement, without working a great deal. Another thing is that his reputation as an officially good-looking guy, and a social or advertising model, blurs his image a bit”.
So no surprise after signing another good looking football player, Kaka of Brazil, they shifted their attention to Ronaldo. All the rumours about Tevez & Ribery going to Real Madrid is unlikely to happen. No direspect to their talent but look does matter.
