I have a friend who is currently waiting for his appeal at High Court since 2005. He was charged with CBT and is currently suspended without pay until he is acquitted by the court of law. I sympathize with him and he is currently doing business while waiting for his trial to resume, which till now, is still unclear when.
There are many reasons why cases are pending at the court. One of the reasons is delay tactics by either party. Anwar Ibrahim’s case would spring to mind, I’m sure. It could also be because DPP is unprepared or not sure whether to continue the case due to new developments. But the most common reason is that the judge failed to prepare the written judgement which needs to be referred to during appeal. Some have even been transferred to other states or district, making it almost impossible to request a written judgment from him/her.
